“I just really love the process of working with words. I think about words a lot, and I love putting them together in a way that seems just right and that really communicates what I want to say.” — Eileen Berry

Eileen Berry has always had a deep love of reading and a passion for writing. Fast forward to today, Eileen shares her gift of being a writer with BJU Press and teaches writing for children and poetry writing university courses. Eileen sits down with Jenny to discuss how to ignite the love of writing flame in our young students.

Key Topics Covered:

  • Writing for children vs. writing for adults
  • Finding unique ideas for writing through various techniques
  • Understanding the process of what writing a book may look like
  • Celebrating the reward of writing

Eileen also shares about her upcoming projects, including a new biography for young readers.

As educators, we have a unique opportunity to encourage the development of writing skills in our young students.  Eileen’s personal journey from a book-loving child reading in the nook of a tree branch to educating students of all ages on the power of writing exhibits the impact of nourishing young writers.

“I like to think of writing for children as writing in miniature … It’s a work for adults, but it’s written to scale for a child. So it needs to reflect that same level of craftsmanship and skill that a work for adults would have, but you’re limited in several ways. It’s got to be shorter. And you’re limited in your vocabulary that you can use.” —Eileen Berry

Every day in the classroom is YOUR day to impact and inspire through God’s power and grace working in you.

Go do what God has called you to do!
